We had lots and lots of ideas for Father's Day that ranged from crafting to cooking. But alas, time was not our friend and we didn't get any of them done. Lucky we have a very crafty friend who managed to do some very cute mini projects and is happy for us to share them on our blog.
All of Zina's projects can be made last minute and most of them are just using nice patterned papers, tags, envelopes and twine. Zina will be sharing tutorials for most of her projects on her messyart blog. Her are some of her ideas....
For breakfast, cook dad some French toast with bacon, banana and maple syrup and add a little 'BEST DAD EVER' banner to the top.
For all those dad's that have to work on Father's Day, why not put together a super cute lunch box with lots of reminders that he his the BEST dad!
Instead of just wrapping his favourite sandwich in glad wrap, tie a serviette and twine around it. Cut out a paper heart or '# 1 DAD' and glue them onto a plain tag.
Put some chips in a glad bag and add a funny label. We love Zina's idea of using corn chips with the label saying 'Love from you corny kids'!
Get the kids to write some little notes of love to their dad and put them into an envelope. Zina used some tags for her kids to write the notes on and helped them by starting a sentence for them eg: 'I love you dad because......'. We are sure every dad would love to recieve these very special notes.
Add another tag to just let dad know that he really is number 1!
Music CD's or movie DVD's are always a great present for dad. Instead of wrapping it, pop it into a decorate brown paper bag.
Dad can never have enough little love notes, get the kids to draw a picture and write why the love their dad. Put them in a decorated an envelope and we are sure that he will keep them forever.
Tags are always a quick and easy and can be a great alternate to cards which can get quite expensive.
Make dad his favourite cake and present it on a cake stand with some handmade bunting.
Bunting is really easy to make and Zina is going to put a tutorial on how she made hers on her blog.
Set a nice table for dad on Father's Day by simply adding some cool moustache cups, which you can find the tutorial for here, coloured serviettes, a few flowers and all of dad's favourite food.
Enjoy a Father's Day brunch with just your family or invite some friends around to enjoy this special day together!
FRENCH TOAST RECIPE
There are lots of french toast recipes out there but this is a yummy rustic one from Bec's sister Julia.
Add equl parts of milk and cream to a bowl {we used 1 cup of each}, 3 eggs, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. Lightly whisk. Dip a thick piece of bread into the mixture and then place into a fry pan. Lightly brown each side. Serve with crispy bacon, banana and maple syrup. Enjoy!
Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful Father's out there!
Love
Bec & Tammi
