We were so excited to be asked to design and style a candy buffet for a special High Tea being held at the picturesque House of Gabriel on the River at Tumbulgum, NSW in May.
The High Tea was being held to raise funds for the Queensland Institute of Medical Research and their fight against cancer. They have challenged fundraisers with The Ride to Conquer Cancer an epic two day cycle through the Queensland countryside. Our friend, and hopeful participant, Carolyn Baker, needed $2,500 just to enter the 200km bike ride! She has put in so much hard work – apart from the physical training needed to prepare for the cycle - she has two kids to look after and has been busy trying to rally up raffle prizes, donations and this High Tea Fundraiser, which we were only too happy to be a part of. Since the Fundraiser was to be held in the gardens that surround the stunning 100 year old building of The House of Gabriel, and would be for 80 women, we decided to make our candy buffet girly and vintage. We chose a gorgeous color palette of pinks, greens and whites, and added of girly touches such as pearls, flowers, and ribbons along with vintage inspired cake plates and antique books and lace.
As the natural backdrop was so divine, we decided against using a backboard. An antique lace tablecloth to cover our trestle table was all that was needed. We used a gorgeous pink hobnail cake stand, which sat upon a pretty vintage inspired box as our centrepiece. Then filled the cake stand with pale pink Cake pops with pink ribbons, which we thought emulated the breast cancer ribbon, and finished it off with an elegant glass dome. Either side we used vintage books as our raisers and on top sat glass candy jars filled with mini musk sticks and pink musk balls. Simple green milk cake plates sat beside this filled with pink iced biscuits and Pistachio macarons rose from the centre on a small white milk cake stand.
The ends were finished off with antique and vintage inspired teacups, pearls and handmade paper flowers. Throughout the front of the table we scattered pink sixlets, milk bottles, and macarons among glass saucers, used white mini mints and Green Tea flavoured Jelly Belly’s in the smaller candy jars and covered mini Hershey bars in RubyJu labels to sit nicely on a ruffle white cake stand.
The day was a great success and together with Carolyn, Jenni & Cheryl McPherson of the House of Gabriel, we managed to raise over $2,100.
